What is Instrument Calibration?

Instrument calibration is the process of maintaining the accuracy of a piece of electrical equipment. To do this, we benchmark the device against a calibrator that we know to be of an acceptable standard, and tune in your device so that it more accurately mirrors that range. This therefore ensures that your measurement equipment is working to the best of its ability.

Why is Instrument Calibration Necessary?

It is crucial to calibrate your electrical test equipment as, if you do not, then it may compromise the accuracy of your device. Not only is that bad customer service, but inaccurate measurement equipment can potentially put people in danger. What would happen if your gas analyser could not detect a dangerous toxin because the level was too low? We dare to think! Our instrument calibration service eliminates this possibility and so makes for a safer, better service.

How Often Should Electrical Test Equipment Be Calibrated?

This question has a range of answers. Firstly, you should always refer to the user manual and stick to the manufacturer’s maintenance guidelines. You should also calibrate your equipment before any major project, after a long period of disuse, or after extended periods of use. As a general rule, if your instrument has not been calibrated in the last 5 years, then it probably needs to be.

Calibration

We have a wide range of laboratory test equipment at our workshops in Speke, Liverpool. All of the test equipment in our laboratory is sent to UKAS accredited laboratories for annual UKAS accredited certification to give your calibrations traceability to NPL.

Then, we have our electrical lab. Here you will find several high-spec, multi-functional calibrators from both Time Electronics and Fluke UK. These devices are linked to our management software, EasyCal 6, which helps to speed up turnaround times. It also provides an automatic recall system to give you a timely reminder of all calibration due dates and database lists.

As well as this, we have a high voltage lab for testing up to 60KV AC/DC, and a pressure lab that covers a -1Bar to 100Bar range. There is also a Barometric option included (nitrogen gas supplied), and a hydraulic dead weight tester with capability of up to 1200 Bar.

Repair

Additionally, we have technical expertise in the repair of all types of electrical measuring equipment. Our technicians are highly skilled and can have your tools back with you before you know it. We provide this in conjunction with our calibration service, which gives a service second to none in the UK!
